Meetings

Dates and times for all meetings can be found on the troop calendar.

The Troop meets every Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Clarence United Methodist Church. Be on the lookout for other sign up sheets for camp outs, activities and service projects at the meeting.

There is a parents’ meeting the first Monday of each month at the church. At every meeting be sure to sign in on the attendance sheet to get
credit for participating.

An adult leader’s meeting is held once a month either on the second or third Thursday depending on what weekend we are camping that month and conflicts with other events at council or in the  community. During these meetings adult leaders, parents and volunteers plan some of the logistics needed to run the troop as well as address any issues or unfinished items from the monthly parent meeting.

A patrol leader’s council or PLC  is made up of the senior patrol leader, who oversees the meetings, the assistant senior patrol leader, all patrol leaders, troop quartermaster, troop scribe and the troop guide. The patrol leaders’ council plans the yearly troop program at the annual troop program planning conference. It then meets monthly to fine-tune the plans for the upcoming month. Any scout with a leadership position is encouraged to attend and help shape the program for the troop. These meetings are generally held the Sunday before the monthly parent meeting.

Troop Leadership

The Boy Scout program is significantly different from a Cub Scout pack experience. You may be in for a bit of culture shock. Troop
93 is a boy-led, patrol-based troop. Activities and meetings are planned and carried out by the Scouts. Organizationally, the Troop is
divided into patrols. Each Scout belongs to a patrol that is led by a Patrol Leader. The Troop is led by a Senior Patrol Leader (SPL).
The end result of this is Scouts who make decisions and execute them. Sometimes things don’t work out perfectly, but this
structure allows the Scouts to learn and grow as leaders. If you have an idea for an activity, please talk to your Patrol Leader or
the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL).

Troop Information

Our Troop website is http://clarencetroop93.org/. Information about meetings, Troop activities and the scouting program is
regularly posted to this site. Ask us for the password to access the restricted areas.

The troop sends out a weekly newsletter that contains the highlights of upcoming events, activities and deadlines.

Advancement

We encourage and motivate our Scouts to achieve the rank of First Class before their second year of Summer Camp. If you aren’t
advancing, speak to your Patrol Leader or the SPL and find out what you can do to move forward.
Advancements are taught by Scouts in your patrol. Learning (one week) is often followed-up by a demonstration of the learned skill
(the next week). All advancements must be approved (signed-off) by the Scoutmaster or an Assistant Scoutmaster. Keep this in mind
as you are planning your advancement efforts.
Your first Rank to earn is SCOUT.
Step 1 – Complete a Troop 93 application and turn it in with your registration at your first meeting.
Step 2 – Obtain the Boy Scout Handbook. The spiral bound one is worth the extra cost, as it tends to last longer. Also, the
cloth cover you can purchase helps keep everything intact. There are changes to the requirements, so make sure you have
the 13th edition (2016 version). Review the Youth Protection section with your parents at home and have your parent(s)
initial the requirement #6 on page 439.
Step 3 – You are on your way to becoming an Eagle Scout

Camping

Troop 93 camps most every month. See your Patrol Leader or SPL for details.
